Semitron ESdElectrostatic dissipative engineering plastics

The Semitron ESd electrostatic dissipative family is designed for applications where discharge during operation causes problems; these materials control static through bleed-off. They solve electrostatic discharge problems over a wide range of temperatures and mechanical loads, and are available in four grades.

Grades

  • Semitron® ESd 225

    ESd POM · beige

Ideal for handling and transport processes that need an electrostatic dissipative acetal. Also a good choice for hard disk drive manufacturing equipment and for handling silicon wafers during processing.

  • Semitron® ESd 410C

    ESd PEI · black

Keeps excellent mechanical properties up to 210℃, providing an ESd solution at high temperatures.

A low coefficient of thermal expansion and low moisture absorption give it outstanding dimensional stability, making it ideal for handling equipment in the electrical, electronics and semiconductor industries.

  • Semitron® ESd 500HR

    ESd PTFE · white

Reinforced with a proprietary synthetic mica, it combines low friction, excellent dimensional stability and static dissipation.

Where pure PTFE causes discharge problems, it bleeds off static while keeping typical PTFE properties such as broad chemical resistance and a low coefficient of friction.

  • Semitron® ESd 520HR

    ESd PAI · khaki gray

The industry's first material to combine static dissipation, high strength and heat resistance. Ideal for contactors, sockets and nests in test equipment and for handling components in the semiconductor industry.

A key feature is its resistance to dielectric breakdown at high voltages (>100V). Typical carbon fiber reinforced materials become irreversibly conductive after only brief exposure to modest voltages, whereas 520HR keeps its electrical performance across 100~1000V and delivers excellent mechanical performance in demanding applications.

Applications

  • Integrated circuit manufacturing and handling equipment
  • Hard disk drive manufacturing equipment
  • Circuit board manufacturing and handling equipment
  • Silicon wafer handling parts
  • Contactors, sockets and nests for test equipment
  • Parts for high-speed electronic printing and playback equipment
  • Material handling parts

Technical notes

Semitron ESd materials are inherently dissipative, so they do not depend on atmospheric conditions such as humidity, and their properties are not degraded by surface treatments used to create dissipation.

Frequently asked questions

What temperatures can Semitron ESd withstand?

Continuous service temperature ranges from 90℃ to 260℃ depending on the base polymer. ESd 410C, an ESd PEI, keeps excellent mechanical properties up to 210℃.

Does low humidity reduce the static dissipation?

No. The materials are inherently dissipative, so they do not depend on atmospheric conditions such as humidity, and the dissipative capability is permanent.

Does it contain metal or carbon powder?

No. Semitron ESd contains no metal or carbon powders.

Which grade should I use if I need PTFE chemical resistance without discharge problems?

Semitron ESd 500HR (ESd PTFE, white). It bleeds off static while keeping PTFE properties such as broad chemical resistance and a low coefficient of friction.

Which grade suits semiconductor test sockets?

Semitron ESd 520HR (ESd PAI) suits contactors, sockets and nests in test equipment. It keeps its electrical performance across 100~1000V.
